For editing the footage together I have chosen to use Adobe Premier Pro. This is because I have used this software in the past for several other film, so i am already experienced with the setup.
I have started with first collecting all the footage I have gathered into one folder, from which, I can drag and drop the clips into the cutting screen.
This is where I am cutting the clips so that i have only what i need of the clip on the tie line. This tool is useful in cutting down individual clips, which has been necessary as many of the clips are either too long, there were errors or have parts that needed to be cut, as they have nothing to do with the story.
So far, I have been ordering the clips in the order of the narrative that i have established. From there, I have chosen to include many long takes for the majority of the scenes, as a low kinetic energy in editing connotes a serious tone, which is appropriate for representing the grieving process. Woodkid's 'Golden Age' music video also features long takes when the video is trying to achieve a slower, sombre feel.
I am also attempting to include fast paced editing in the 'Black Hole' scene, as the anxiety that I am trying to communicate in that scene has borrowed cinematography and editing techniques from my previous moving image on anxiety. This also stems from when Sergio Leone creates conflict in his films and illustrates the idea of building tension through increasing the pace of the editing cutting.
Once the voiceover is added and the first draft of the edit is done, I will look into adding effects such as graphics and transitions to better deliver each scene. I may also adjust the colour of the film to cohere to a tone that hits a balance between positivity and negativity in emotion.
